Recruiter Contact Verification: Stop Treating Every Email as Equal

Contact enrichment is only useful when the recruiter can tell which result is most trustworthy. Dumping every email and phone number from multiple providers creates noise, cost, and outreach risk. A resolver should rank contact signals and preserve the evidence behind that ranking.

1. Separate contact type from contact confidence

Work email, personal email, mobile, office phone, social profile, and portfolio URL are different channels. Each also needs an independent confidence state such as verified, probable, unverified, stale, or failed.

Do not let “provider returned a value” become the definition of verified. Verification should mean something concrete and explainable.

2. Use freshness and corroboration

A contact signal is stronger when it is recent and multiple independent sources agree. Store the last-observed or last-verified date where available and avoid presenting old records with the same visual weight as recently verified ones.

Corroboration matters, but duplicate provider records are not necessarily independent evidence. Provider lineage should remain visible internally.

3. Learn from bounce and connect history

Operational feedback should improve future ranking. A bounced email, disconnected phone, successful reply, or recruiter-confirmed correction is valuable evidence about the contact signal.

Do not repeatedly charge or surface the same failed result if the system already knows it is unusable.

4. Present one primary answer and the alternatives

The recruiter should see the best current work email, personal email, phone, and professional profile first, with confidence, freshness, and source context. Lower-confidence alternatives can remain available without taking over the interface.

This turns enrichment from a provider dump into a decision-support layer.

5. Treat contactability as its own boundary

Evidence that a person exists or fits a role is not automatically a valid outreach channel. Contact data should retain its acquisition context, usage rights, opt-out state, and organizational policy constraints.

A responsible workflow also keeps contact discovery separate from automated outreach authorization.
